Jessie Gosling is a singer, songwriter, and musician from Barrie, Ontario. Drawing inspiration from the Milk Carton Kids, Linda Perhacs, and Adrianne Lenker, her dramatic and honest songs pull strongly from the folk genre with country, jazz, and rock influences. 

Haunting harmonies and hopeful inflections, coupled with her love for storytelling create a narrative that you can’t pull yourself away from. Exploring life’s themes of love, longing, exploration, and self, Jessie’s songwriting skills are put on display within her first EP, Forewarning (December 2021) with the help of FACTOR’s Artist Development Grant.

“I grew up with a big family that loved to share music. When I didn’t know the songs they were playing, I would make up my own. I can’t imagine they were any good to begin with, but with enough encouragement, they slowly became understandable. When I brought my songs to my family, It was like a different kind of conversation. Before I knew how to articulate my own wonder to them, they could hear it through the music. It became a natural way for me to not only explain myself, but to process how I feel about the other people, their stories, and the world around me.”

Jessie has devoted herself to developing her artist brand and identity. After participating in Humber College’s Intercultural & Creative Music Fellowship, her eight other students decided to form the band, Carmine to release their-five song EP, Something is Awake (September 2023). As she pursues her Bachelor of Music Degree, Jessie is steadily writing new music and performing across Toronto at venues such as The Rivoli for NXNE, and the Aga Khan with Carmine.
